The Department of Food Science and Dietetics was established by Law 4610/2019; it is part of the School of Health Sciences at the University of the Peloponnese and began operations in the 2019–2020 academic year -2020 with 150 students. The Department is located in the Antikalamos area of Kalamata.
The Department’s goal is to provide in-depth and evidence-based knowledge and to foster critical thinking so that graduates can practice as dietitians and nutritionists, providing nutritional care to individuals or populations, improving their dietary habits, and enhancing the quality of life and well-being of the general population.
The Department’s mission is to train new scientists who are well-educated in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics.

To achieve its objectives, the Department covers a wide range of academic disciplines, such as Nutrition, Food Science, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Metabolism, Pathophysiology, and others, combining theoretical instruction with laboratory and tutorial exercises. In the Undergraduate Program, particular emphasis is placed on students’ practical and clinical training.
